A Missionary in Manolos

Manolo – No, not pronounced “Manilow” as in Barry, nor is it the name of the Philippine capital (which is Manila, not Manilo, anyway.)  It IS, however, the name of the fabulously fashionable footwear designer Manolo Blahnik.  I’ve never actually had the privilege of teetering atop a pair of his brilliantly crafted stilettos.  However, I do appreciate well-crafted shoes and do own a few pairs that I love.   “A Missionary in Manolos” refers not only to me – a woman that enjoys fashion, loves the Lord, and a good pair of shoes, but any born-again Christian woman.  You see, I am talking to the everyday woman whether you shop on Rodeo Drive or at the local Walmart.  I believe that no matter what place in life, job, marriage, or SHOES you may be tromping through life in, you can effectively bring glory to God and be a light to those around you.

With that said, this blog is truly a labor of love.  Seriously, I am not a writer and blogging does not even come close to defining who I am.  However, over the past few months, God has been putting on my heart the need to do this.  In order to be an obedient daughter, I’m taking it on and hopefully, prayerfully, the Lord will bring to these musings the readers He has intended it for.  If it’s only one person…AWESOME!  It’s all for the Lord.  At times, you may find me a bit irreverent and quite often politically INcorrect (whatever that means now a days), but there is one truth that pervades all of my writing, that Jesus Christ is Lord of Lords, my Savior, and my ultimate Love.  If I can be a witness and a testimony to the miracles of the Lord by sharing our journey (which is one big miracle in and of itself), bringing you into our life, and allowing you to see our mistakes (oh boy…) and lessons learned, all in order to bring glory to God and encouragement to those with questions, then this blog has done its job. (Dang, that was one run-on sentence.)

So, as you skip through life, remember that you are a mouth piece of the Lord. He can and will use you to introduce the people in your circle to a deep and abiding love that is Christ.  If you are the Queen of England or livin’ in a van down by the river (thank you Chris Farley) you CAN be utilized to bring others to Christ.  So kick off those heels (very carefully, then put them back in the bag and into the box high on your closet shelf far from grubby little hands that can’t wait to snatch them up) and run, skip, dance, or even wheel down that country lane (or in my case the Via Apia in Rome where I’d like to be right now) with complete abandon and unrestricted faith that Jesus is in control of your life.  Regardless of the potholes or trees in the road, cultivate joy (which is more than difficult at times, I know) and then grasp the promise with every fiber of your being that you WILL BE BLESSED! I prefer to think that even though I’d like to be kickin’ it in a pair of luscious heels, I’d gladly walk in the Lord’s footsteps in a pair of ratty flip flops if that’s what He asked of me.  So come along if you like as I try to “find my voice”, as blogging gurus recommend, watch my progress as I continue to evolve into the woman Christ wants me to be, and the transformation of the lives of a family wholly devoting themselves to serving God.
